The club meets on Friday evenings 5.30pm April to Nov and Saturday mornings 10am November to March
Meet at the Boat Store (adjacent to The White Water Centre Tees Barrage).
Beginners are welcome Easter to November. We cater for adults
and children (8 years +) and are particularly keen to encourage families to join
in.
Sessions are mainly based on the Warm up lake (a small sheltered lake adjacent to
the White Water Centre upstream of the
White Water Course).
If you are new to canoeing you will need to dress in warm
light, layered clothing (non cotton as this is very cold when wet!) with a
light windproof anorak. Something light for the feet, a change of clothing and
a towel.
During the Winter, October to Easter beginners are
encouraged to attend a club pool session (prior booking is required).
Qualified volunteer coaches staff the sessions each
week and the paddlers are generally split up into similar ability groups to
work on skills, go on a river trip, work with specialist boats or do
introductory work on the White Water Course when this is available.
We carry out regular BCU star test training and assessment and particularly for juniors "The BCU Paddle Power
Awards" (a fun based progressive scheme on a less formal basis).Away trips feature as part of our annual program.
On weekends when the White Water Course is available for
public use there may be organised coaching sessions for intermediate paddlers on
the White Water Course subject enough
qualified coaches being available.
Slalom and Freestyle coaching
session can also be arranged
subject to coach availability. |
